Ri.MED Foundation: Paolo Aquilanti renewed as President of the Board

28 October 2021

Palermo, 28 October 2021 – The Presidency of the Council of Ministers, founding member of Ri.MED Foundation in 2006, has renewed the appointment of the President: Paolo Aquilanti will lead Ri.MED for the next five years.

Paolo Aquilanti took over as President of the Ri.MED Foundation in 2017; he has over 30 years’ experience in management and has previously served as Magistrate of the Council of State, General Secretary of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers from 2015 to 2018, and Parliamentary Advisor of the Senate of the Republic.

In recent years he has guided Ri.MED through significant changes, including the start of the construction pof Ri.MED’s BRBC in Sicily, presented last week in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the President of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati.

Aquilanti’s goal in his new mandate is to inaugurate and bring to full operation what will be one of the most innovative translational research centers in Europe, but also to facilitate the full implementation with ISMETT, the transplant center in Sicily recently certified by ‘Chime’ as one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in Europe. Both ISMETT and Ri.MED are the result of the international partnership with UPMC.

“Consistently with the Foundation’s mission” said Paolo Aquilanti “the activities of the next five years will focus on the integration of research and treatment to accelerate the transfer of scientific innovations to patients, and on attracting funding for research that will benefit the economic development of the territory. Public engagement and training activities will also be intensified, especially in view of the opening of the Ri.MED center. It is an ambitious challenge I am honored to be part in. I am proud to represent an ever-growing reality, made up of skilled and highly motivated researchers.
